GILGIT - Senior Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Muhammad Jaffar and Managing Director Northern Area Transport Corporation (NATC) Zafar Iqbal held successful negotiations with Truck Owners Association (TOA) and persuaded them on ending the strike.On the first week of April, truck drivers were tortured, goods looted and vehicles were damaged after violence erupted in various parts of GB. TOA protested and demanded from GB government to provide security and loss should be compensated. Talking to APP, Muhammad Gofer ensured TOA that security would be provided by the government and the loss caused by riots would be fully compensated.The Senior Minister, who negotiated at the behest of Chief Minister told TOA that security on Karakuram Highway has significantly been increased and all out efforts would be made to avert any untoward incident.The sources said after the assurance TOA president Haji Isphandiyar directed drivers to end protest and started loading their trucks. Some 500 trucks set out towards GB which were loaded with essential commodities reached various parts of GB, they added.
