PESHAWAR  - Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Khyber Agency Hassan Shinwari has demanded immediate reshuffling of high officials of the agency to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in the agency.

Addressing a press conference here at press club on Monday, Shinwari said that despite the clear orders of Supreme Court and Election Commission of Pakistan, the high officials were not transferred.

He alleged that the agency Political Agent Mathar Zaib Khan and Assistant Political Agent Tehsil Jamrud, Jehangir Azam were creating hurdles in holding of free and impartial elections by using development funds for electioneering of candidates belonging to the former ANP government.

Flanked by Rafeeq Afridi and Shahjehan Afridi, he further alleged that officials had forcibly removed their party flags in the constituencies NA-45 and NA-46 while supporting a candidate from NA-45 Shah Jee Gul son of former provincial minister Sher Azam Wazir. “We have great reservations over not transferring the two controversial officials of the Khyber Agency,” he said.

He termed the massive utilisation of development funds in the agency pre-poll rigging asking the Election of Commission of Pakistan to take immediate notice of it.

He informed that Political Agent Mathar Zaib had empowered the Assistant Political Agent Jehangir by taking power from returning officer in NA-45 and Assistant Political Agent Landi Kotal.  He said that it was a clear violation of the ECP’s rules.

JI ameer strongly condemned the removing of party flags and torturing of workers on the orders of political agents and demanded the government and ECP to take immediate notice of it and transfer both officials to pave way for holding free, fair and transparent election in the agency. He further demanded that the Election Commission of Pakistan should also ensure full implementation of its code of conduct in the Khyber Agency.
