Three die in Karachi rain ravage

At least three people lost their lives in various rain-hit incidents in the metropolis Monday.
A man namely Danish lost his life as the wall of his house caved in due to heavy rain in Nazimabad area. Similarly, a woman identified Najma Zahid died of electrocution. In another incident, a man died due to an electric shock in Baldia Town.
Some parts of the city received heavy rain that caused massive problems for the commuters. The stagnant rainwater also caused heavy traffic jams on various roads which were presenting a look of pools. The MA Jinnah Road, Rashid Minhas Road, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Saddar and other busy roads witnessed long queues of vehicles due to heavy traffic jam. Due to the KMC’s inefficiency, the rainwater got mixed with drainage water on various points, causing trouble to the commuters.
On the other hand, various parts of the city faced hour’s long power suspension as number of electric feeders of the Karachi Electric Supply Company got tripped during the rain. The Pakistan Metrological Department forecast the intermittent rain spell is likely to continue for the next 12 to 18 hours.
Meanwhile, KMC Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi imposed rain emergency and put off leaves of the staff concerned, directing them to present on their duties until next directive. He also directed the departments concerned to start draining out the rainwater and monitor the situation of nullahs and downward areas.
Karachi Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi along with Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan and other officers visited various areas including Airport, Natha Khan Bridge, Falaknaz, Malir 15, Shahra-e- Faisal, FTC Bridge, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad Underpasses, KDA Chowrangi and Old City. He said all-out efforts were being made to drain out the rainwater.
Following the directives of Zaidi, the Cantonment Board was provided with heavy machinery and pumps to drain out the rainwater. The Municipal Services, Fire Brigade and other departments were directed to respond to the public complaints on emergency basis.
