MARDAN - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf members of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly from the district, Obaid Khan Mayar and Zahid Khan Durani, on Sunday rejected the allegations levelled by the party’s top brass against them to have sold their votes in the recently-held Senate elections.
“We reject allegation of involvement in horse trading in Senate elections as our candidate Ayub Afridi won the elections”, Obaid Khan Mayar and Zahid Khan Durani said while addressing a press conference at Mardan Press Club. The PTI Chairman Imran Khan had announced expelling 20 party MPAs including Obaid Mayar and Zahid Khan Durani for allegedly having sold their votes in the Senate elections.
During the press conference, Obaid Mayar and Zahid Khan Durani were also accompanied by the district and tehsil council members and PTI workers.
Obaid Mayar claimed that he had voted for PTI candidate Ayub Afridi. He said that he always followed the party’s line of action. Obaid Mayar, who belongs to a well-known family of Mayar, said that he was from a family which spent millions of rupees in charity, so he would not sell his conscience for 20 or 30 million rupees. He added that his grandfather remained minister when Imran Khan had not born.
He added that before joining the PTI, he used to support needy people and used his own money for the welfare of the people of the area. He said that the party should have questioned him before levelling the allegation against him, adding that he was kept in the dark before the press conference of Imran Khan on the matter.
The PTI MPA said that the allegations had destroyed the honour of his family and his political career.
Obaid Mayar at this occasion also announced to quit basic membership of PTI. He added that very soon he would announce his future plan.
Addressing the press conference on this occasion, Zahid Khan Durani also rejected the allegation to have sold his vote and announced that he would knock at the door of high court for justice and would submit a petition in the court. He termed the move as a conspiracy hatched by Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, KP ministers Atif Khan and Shahram Khan Taraki and some people within the party.
He said that he was ready to satisfy the party and go to any extent to prove his innocence.
Zahid Durani added that the PTI chief Imran Khan first levelled allegations against them and later formed a committee to conduct inquiry and also announced to issue showcase notice to them, which, he said, was an injustice to them. He added that a week before the PTI chief’s press conference, he had met Pervez Khattak and Naeem-ul-Haq and had told them that he wanted to meet Imran Khan. He said that Pervez Khattak and Naeem had told him that there were no charges of his meeting with Imran Khan.
He added that capitalist politics and family politics continued in PTI. He alleged that family and friends of Pervez Khattak were in power in different shapes. He added that before joining the PTI, Pervez Khattak had been wandering for irrigation ministry.
Zahid Durani questioned Imran Khan as to why he asked the party MNAs to vote for PPP candidate for deputy chairman Senate. He added that he had the right to allege Imran Khan of having received money. Zahid Durrani added that Imran Khan had disgraced them without any proof.
