Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has directed Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to supply as much as gas required by K-Electric to provide electricity to the Karachi city.
A high level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCoE) was called today to resolve the dispute between SSGC and KE which led the city suffering from severe load shedding.
For the last few weeks, Karachi was facing severe load-shedding after KE said the SSGC has reduced the gas supply and it is thus unable to produce the required amount of power. The SSGC claims KE owes it millions in dues and will restore supply once the payments are made.
After the meeting, while talking to media PM Abbasi said “now the city will have electricity and water as well as water is supplied using electricity”.
In response to a question, the Shahid Khaqan stated Karachi will 100 percent load shedding free when the bills are being paid by everyone.
The dispute began between when K-Electric reported Rs52 billion claims against the KSWB and SSGC claimed 80bn against KE excluding Rs7bn security deposit required for increasing gas supply from contractual 10mmcfd (million cubic feet per day) to 190mmcfd.
Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance Miftah Ismail has been tasked to determine what dues are owed by both companies within 15 days.
