History will remember Musharraf as a person who was prepared to go to any length to hang on to power. A dictator who destroyed the country's judiciary and locked up judges and their families in their homes, set aside the constitution twice and rigged the 2002 elections to form a King's Party of corrupt politicians. He had no hesitation in going back on his public commitments. He pledged publicly to doff his uniform but reneged on it when the time came to fulfill the pledge. He said he would never do anything unconstitutional and yet staged a second coup unabashedly suspending the constitution on November 3, 2007. He used the term 'national interest' to justify his pro-American stance and handed over Pakistani citizens to United States with out due process of law, receiving payment against each head. His action against Lal Masjid was unmindful of the dire consequences. That action was responsible for a long string of suicide bombings in Pakistan that killed thousands of our innocent citizens. He exposed the institution of army to attack by the terrorists. His only lasting legacy is a corrupt politician whose loot of national wealth he pardoned through the NRO. -ENGR S.T.
