New Permanent Representative to UN appointed

ISLAMABAD (APP) - The government on Friday appointed Abdullah Hussain Haroon, as Ambassador and Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Born on October 21, 1950, Haroon served as Counsellor, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) (1979-1985), Chairman, Finance Committee (KMC) (1979-1981), Trustee, Karachi Port Trust (KPT) (1980-1982), Member, Provincial Assembly Sindh (1985-1988), Speaker, Provincial Assembly of Sindh (1985-1986) and Leader of Opposition, Sindh Provincial Assembly (1986-1988). He also served as Consultant, Pakistan Herald Publication (1988-1989), Delegate to United Nations General Assembly, Member, 2nd Committee, United Nations and Member, Board of Governors IBA, Karachi University (1996-1999). Director, Board of Directors (KESC) Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (1997-1999), Chairman, Griffith College Karachi (1999-2005) and also served as President, Pakistan-China Business Forum (1999-2004). Haroon is unmarried.
