KARACHI - A woman and her minor grandson were killed in a firing incident within the jurisdiction of Gulistan-e-Johar police station while a dead body of a youth was found from Saeedabad. Three armed men opened indiscriminate firing on one Tahir Khan at Hussain Hazara Goth. As a result, Maryam Bibi, 68, and Tahir Khan died on the spot while her grandson Ahsan sustained serious injuries. He was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre but could not survive. The incident took place when Maryam Bibi along with grandson was sitting outside her house. Gulshan Town SP, Sohail Zafar Chatta, claimed that both the deceased Tahir Khan and the assailants were Pakhtoons and old enmity was the cause behind the bloody incident. Police have registered the case against unidentified men. Meanwhile, a bullet-riddled body of a 22-year-old youth was found near Waqas Road, Rubi Mor, in the jurisdiction of Saeedabad Police Station. Deceased was killed another place and later his body was thrown at the said place, said DSP Syed Sahib Ali Shah, adding that the FIR has been registered. Prisoner escapes from police custody Four prisoners here Friday managed to escape from police custody at gunpoint when they were being brought to the court for hearing. Police have arrested three culprits while their accomplice managed to flee from the scene under the cover of aerial firing. Plagiarist arrested Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday conducted a raid at the Discount Book Centre in Urdu Bazaar and recovered several plagiarised copies of Oxford University Press (OUP) textbooks were recovered. The raiding party seized Countdown, Urdu Ka Guldasta, Nardban-e-Urdu, New Active English and Progressive Mathematics being taught as textbooks at some of the leading schools in the city. The owner of Discount Book Centre, Sohail Iqbal, has also been arrested on charges of stocking and selling plagiarised versions of Oxford books to students and parents and also supplying these to numerous booksellers and schools. After the arrest of accused Sohail Iqbal, a mob of booksellers attacked the Oxford bookshop in Urdu Bazaar. Wielding large sticks and stones, they smashed the glass windows and doors of the shop causing damage to the property and creating panic among the staff.
