The role of Pakistani media in highlighting the present disaster has been phenomenal. Anchors from different TV channels are constantly updating their viewers about the damages incurred so far. These updates are not only aimed at informing people but also act as a roadmap for government in the strategy to provide relief. The ground realities presented in the media coverage also, in a way, help in gathering relief for the flood-affectees. Of course, those living away from the flood-affected areas are not aware of the reality and only media coverage can enlighten them about the happenings. It is a fact that positive coverage of an incident or event changes the whole scenario and vice versa. One expects the media channels to stay vigilant during floods and keep playing the role they have been playing through out the crisis-ridden history of Pakistan. -ZULFIQAR HAIDER, Islamabad, August 16.
