KARACHI – No less than four people, including a political worker, were gunned down, while two bodies were recovered during Eid days, police officials said, claiming to have apprehended two alleged operatives of a terrorist cell. An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead near his residence within the remit of the Pakistan Bazaar Police Station. Identified as 45-year-old Shahid Siddiqui, son of Roshan Siddiqui, the victim was attacked shortly after he stepped out of a barber’s shop in Gulshan-e-Bihar area of Orangi Town on Eid Day. According to police officials, a bike-borne armed duo had targeted him. Another man, namely Bakar Ali, 30, son of Wali Mohammad, was mowed down in Naval Colony, Baldia Town, within the precincts of the Maripur Police Station. Law enforcers said the victim, a driver by profession, was heading somewhere when unidentified gunmen, riding a motorcycle, opened fire on him on the second day of Eidul Fitr. He was resident of Ittehad Town. His body was moved to the Civil Hospital Karachi for autopsy and later handed over to his heirs. The motive behind the killing could not be ascertained until thye filing of this report. Separately, Shafiq, 30, son of Rafiq, was killed in North Karachi area. Officials of the Khawaja Ajmair Nagri Police Station said the victim belonged to a Seraiki family and was a labourer by profession. They said that the attackers, who were two in number, came on a motorcycle and targeted him while he was asleep outside his house. The body was moved to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. The officials further said they had launched a formal investigation.In Awan Colony, a man allegedly killed his brother over a trivial matter. According to officials of the Pirabad Police Station, Aurangzeb Azmam had a quarrel with his younger brother, Jahanzaib, who became infuriated, pulled out a pistol, shot Azman dead and fled. A police party rushed and shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem. Later, it was handed over to the heirs. A case has been registered against Jahanzaib on the complaint of his (another) brother Ayub. Meanwhile, body of a young man was recovered from an abandoned place on Yousuf Haroon Road within the jurisdiction of the Risala Police Station. The body was moved to the CHK, where the victim was identified as Noman aka Nomi, son of Ibrahim Baloch. Police officials said the victim, a resident of Baghdadi area of Lyari Town, was killed after being taken captive. Another body was found lying in bushes at a plot within the remit of the Airport Police Station. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where the victim was identified as 75-year-old Maher Bai, wife of Abdul Majeed. She hailed from Raheem Yar Khan and was resident of Jamali Colony, Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Police officials said the victim’s spouse was a drug addict and killed her with the help of a sharp-edge weapon. A case has been registered with no arrest so far. In Lyari, at least five people, among them a woman, were wounded when unidentified attackers restored to shooting in Moosa Lane area. The injured were ferried to the CHK for treatment. Police officials said the incident took place, when two rival groups traded fire following an exchange of hot words during a Qawwali program in Lyari early on Wednesday. No case was registered till the filing of this news story. Meanwhile, law-enforcement agencies claimed to have apprehended two alleged operatives of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in a raid on Manghopir area. The raid was made on a tip-off. A map of Karachi, hand grenades and other weapons were seized from them. The arrested terrorists were planning to carry out an attack somewhere in the city, said the officials.
