BAHAWALPUR - Cotton is the major crop of the country and highly important for national economy so efforts are underway to get maximum benefit from the crop to boost economy. In this connection, special attention is needed for more research in the better output of cotton crop.
The Islamia University Bahawalpur has started comprehensive research programme in this field to boost-up the cotton production for national cause.
IUB Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Mukhtar made the remarks while talking to a delegation included MPA Haji Zulfiqar Ali, former provincial minister for Livestock Mumtaz Khan, an eminent social and political figure of the area Malik Habibullah Bhutta. He said that special budget had been allocated for the research project on cotton to get better results.
On the occasion, IUB Cotton Breeding Project Director informed about the new varieties of cotton, MM-58 and IUB-222 which were introduced here and had been producing encouraging results. He said that these verities could face the climatic conditions and virus quite effectively without any affect and started production after 70-days.
The delegation highly appreciated it and congratulated the IUB Vice-Chancellor over the success for the improvement of national economy and cotton crop in this area.
IUB Agriculture College Principal Dr Moazam Jamil and the Director Research Dr Muhammad Asghar Hashmi were also present on the occasion.
