GILGIT  - Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) witnessed violence on second day of Eid on Tuesday when two persons including a FC personnel were killed in different firing incidents. The unrest prompted authorities to launch a massive search operation. The GB region has been hit by a wave of violence, where security personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas. Despite heightened security, various firing incidents killed two persons including a FC man while another troop was injured.President of newspaper vendors association was shot dead on Korakoram Highway, while his aide sustained injuries.After a few hours, unknown miscreants opened firing on two FC men posted outside Deputy Commissioner Office, killing one and injuring another.Following the incidents tension griped the area and the streets wore a deserted look. Meanwhile, high alert was imposed in the city as the security personnel were conducting search operation in the entire city on Wednesday.Security personnel have arrested two suspected people with rigorous checking in progress at all entrances and exits of the city.Provincial Information Minister Dr Ali Madad Sher told media persons, the city was clamped with a virtual lockdown for the search operation.The operation is being launched in connection with the killings of three people including security personnel, he added. Directives were issued to keep all shops and commercial areas closed and disallow the inter-city traffic flow into the city.The administration has blocked the entry and exit routes of Gilgit due to the tensed situation following the target killing and Lolo Sir incident.Police is continuing the patrolling to avoid any untoward incident and to maintain law and order situation.It is pertinent to mention here that at least twenty two people were killed when passenger buses were targeted in Lolo Sir area last Thursday.
