ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Under-19 Cricket team lost the all-important World Cup Under-19 quarterfinal match against arch-rivals India by 1 wicket and could not keep the promise of giving the Eid gift to the nation as the match was played on Monday last and Eid falls in Pakistan that day.

While talking exclusively with The Nation from Australia Pakistan U-19 team head coach Sabih Azhar said that batting let them down, if batsmen had played with responsibility and scored around 200 runs the result could be far different.

Sabih praised skipper Babar Azam who played with lot of patience and authority for his superb half century but it was very disappointing to watch Sami Aslam, who before this mega event was the backbone of colts batting but in the event he failed to deliver. He said Pakistan batting revolved around Sami, Babar, Imam-ul-Haq, Umar Waheed and all rounder M Nawaz, unfortunately all the batsmen fail to deliver when it matters except Babar and Umar in the crucial match.

Sabih praised young bowlers who almost pulled off a sensational victory for the Green caps with their spirited bowling but Indians last pair kept nerve and won by one wicket. Sabih said he has no words to describe the bowling of Zia-ul-Haq and Azizullah, who bowled their hearts out and almost defended the small total as Pakistan bowled out for 136 runs in 45.1 overs.

Zia and Aziz kept Pakistan in the hunt and managed to take 9 wickets, when 9th Indian wicket fell at 127 runs and they further required 10 runs for victory.
