ISLAMABAD – Strict security arrangements on Eidul Fitr day pushed the residents of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi to come to public places such as main markets, parks and other picnic spots lead to critical traffic jams on the roads and highways.

The plight of the travellers who took to these places celebrate the Eid with dear ones left them in awful traffic mess particularly those using the main Benazir Bhutto Road in Rawalpindi leaving them flabbergasted as most of them had to wait for hours to wriggle out the traffic mess.

So was the situation in nearby summer resort Murree hills where reports suggest that police had to intervene to disperse the visitors largely from Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and other parts of Punjab and were forced to leave the Murree city due to serious traffic jams but also because of the security threats.

In the federal capital, which was flooded Wednesday evening with outside visitors, ICT police was forced to stop them halfway before reaching their desired destinations just because of the security situation.

Most of the public places were flooded with the visitors but to space problems and security situation some of the families had to go back their homes without enjoying the occasion.

“The rulers are busy in making their own fortune good, and had no regard for the well-being of the citizens”, a senior angry citizen remarked while talking to this scribe.

He pointed out that mal planning, bad governance and corruption of the rulers had added to the miseries of the citizens, asking why the federal government and the Punjab government have failed in taking appropriate steps to tackle the challenging traffic problem in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
