KARACHI - Senior journalist, Shamimur Rehman, was laid to rest at a graveyard in Pehlwan Goth, Gulistan-e-Jauhar. He passed away on Tuesday. His funeral prayers were held in presence of a large number of politicians, members of journalist community besides family and friends. Media reports said associated with journalism for the past 40 years, Rahman was suffering from cancer and was undergoing treatment. His funeral prayer was offered at the Shumail Arcade mosque. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf expressed their condolences on Rahman's passing. Senator Raza Rabbani recording his comments on the death of Shamim-ur-Rehman termed it a great loss for the jouranlist community, he said he himself has lost a sincere friend.Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Munawar Hassan has expressed profound grief and sorrow on the demise of senior journalist Shamimur Rahman. The JI chief hailed the services of Rahman for journalism. Accompanied by JI Karachi General Secretary Naseem Siddiqui, Secretary Information Zahid Askari and Public Relations Director Sarfraz Ahmed, the JI chief also participated in the funeral of the journalist, and condoled his bereaved family.  In a joint statement, JI Karachi chief Muhammad Hussain Mehnati, also expressed grief over the demise of Rahman and termed this loss as irreparable both for the journalism and the bereaved family. The JI leaders prayed that may Allah Almighty rest the departed soul in eternal peace and bestow courage to the family. Meanwhile, JI chief Syed Munawar Hassanand and JI Karachi General Secretary Naseem Siddiqui called on JI central Naib Ameer Prof Abdul Ghafoor and inquire about his health. They also prayed for his early recovery.
