ISLAMABAD - Aqeel Khan, Yasir Khan, M Abid and Ahmed Ch cruised into the semi-finals of the Third Tajamul Abbas Memorial Tennis Championship 2013 here at the Senator Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex.

Top seed Aqeel Khan was in excellent form as he won the match against top junior player Mudassar in straight sets 6-0,6-1 as the youngster failed to show any resistance against the Pakistan No 1 player. Yasir struggled hard to win his encounter against Faizan Khurram as the match was decided in three sets. Surprisingly it was Faizan who started the match in positive style, and won the first set 6-2 by breaking fourth and sixth game of Yasir. He hit excellent shorts from the baselines. In the second set, Yasir was leading 5-2 but Faizan fought back and levelled the score at five-all by breaking ninth game of Yasir. The set was finally decided on the tiebreak, as Yasir won the set 8-6.

In the final set, Yasir brushed aside Faizan winning the set 6-1. M Abid eliminated his doubles partner Usman Rafiq in straight set 6-2, 6-2. In the last quarterfinal, Ahmed Ch stunned fourth seed Usman Ejaz in straight games 6-3, 6-3.

In the first semifinal of doubles, Abid/Usman beat Usman/Mudassar in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 while in the second semifinal, Aqeel/Yasir beat Saad /Hassan.

Ahmed will face Yasir while Aqeel will play against Abid in the semifinals today (Friday) at 9:30am. In the men's doubles event, Abid/Usman will face Aqeel/Yasir in the final at 3:30 pm. In the boys U-18 event, Mudassar, Hamza Bin Asif, Zaid Mujahid and M Muzammil qualified for the semifinals by eliminating their respective opponents in the quarterfinals.

Unseeded Zaid Mujahid continued his winning tempo and made the major upset by beating 2nd seed Hasnain Manzoor in three sets match 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. Top seed Mudassar thrashed M Ahmed winning 6-1, 6-0. Hamza Bin Asif defeated Zaryab Pirzada of Multan in straight sets 6-4, 6-0. Hamza will face Mudassar and Zaid Mujahid will vie against Muzammil in the semifinals at 9:30am.
