LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly on Thursday adopted the Pressure Vessels Ordinance 2002 with certain amendments to fulfil a constitutional requirement necessitated after the 18th amendment under which the subject of boilers has been devolved to the provinces.

In the statement, it has been stated that after omission of the subject of boilers from the concurrent legislative list and the fourth schedule of constitution, the ordinance 2002 had devolved on the provinces by virtue of the 18th amendment. The ordinance was required to be adopted by the Punjab Assembly, in terms of Article 270 AA (6) read with Article 142 (C) of the Constitution. Under the new legislation, boilers being used in the generation of nuclear energy have been specifically excluded from the application of this ordinance as the same are covered under the federal legislative list.–Staff Reporter
