LAHORE - The Lahore High Court Friday suspended Chief Minister Secretariat’s order about summoning of an investigation officer of murder case.

Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi issued this order on the petition of Maqssodan Bibib challenging order of CM secretariat. She through her counsel pleaded that Bhaki police station, Sheikhupura lodged a murder case on her compliant and the investigation was underway. However, a member of CM secretariat inspection team summoned IO which, according to her, would hamper fair and transparent investigation. She pointed out that political influence would cause irreparable loss to her fundamental right.

After hearing the preliminary arguments, the court suspended CM secretariat’s order and warned that a strict action would be taken in case the same illegality was repeated.

Meanwhile, the Lahore high court nullified the orders of provincial ombudsperson and ordered the university to complete inquiry into a sexual harassment case within 15 days.

The Punjab University administration was conducting a de-Novo inquiry against its employee Ilyas Moeen Bhatti on the complaint of female employee wherein she had alleged of causing sexual harassment.  Accused Bhatti, however, had approached the provincial ombudsperson against the inquiry and the ombudsperson stopped PU administration from holding proceedings of inquiry committee and summoned record of the relevant case.

However, PU moved to LHC against ombudsperson order through a writ petition. The counsel argued Provincial Ombudsperson did not have power to stop PU from holding De-Novo inquiry; therefore its order was illegal.

The judge summoned Director/Registrar of Provincial Ombudsperson with record. The court also directed Bhatti to join inquiry proceedings.
