LAHORE- Former president Asif Ali Zardari has lent support to the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and decided to support the incumbent government in and outside the parliament to help the government remain stable in view of the prevailing political stalemate.
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-chairman reached Nawaz’s JatiUmra residence in a helicopter from Lahore Airport, and was received by the Prime Minister helipad.
The two leaders held the one on one meeting to discuss the ongoing political stalemate caused by the protests led by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan AwamiTehreek (PAT) in the federal capital.
Zardari supported the government’s decision to form a judicial commission that will be tasked to probe vote fraud.
Reports said former president advised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to observe maximum restraint in dealing with the protests led by the PTI and PAT.
Zardari, who visited the prime minister and had lunch, was flanked by PPP leaders Raza Rabbani, Aitzaz Ahsan and Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Khurshid Shah.
The prime minister was accompanied by Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister Railways SaadRafique and Frontier Regions Minister Abdul Qadir Baloch.
Asif Ali Zardari also advised the Prime Minister to stop his ministers from issuing strong worded statements. Moreover, a flexible attitude should beadopted by the government in talks with the protesting opposition parties.
He also proposed a high level commission to inquire into the Model Town firing incident in Lahore, which claimed 14 lives of PAT workers and around 75 persons were injured in the incident.
Zardari also advised Nawaz Sharif not to tender resignation as premier of the country, reports said.
Both the leaders criticized the ‘script writer’ of the sit-ins being staged by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and PAT in the federal capital and agreed to foil all the conspiracies being hatched against the government.
On Friday, PM Sharif had extended a luncheon invitation to Zardari, which the later had accepted.
