LAHORE - Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has asked Punjab government to ensure strict implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) against terrorists, their facilitators and those involved in fomenting sectarianism and extremism.
The prime minister, chairing a meeting held to review pace of implementation on the National Action Plan in Punjab at his Raiwind residence yesterday, asked Punjab authorities to step up efforts for accomplishing the task in letter and spirit.
The premier was briefed about the measures taken for implementation on the NAP and encouraging results obtained in Punjab. The meeting also reviewed the situation in the wake of martyrdom of Home Minister Col (r) Shuja Khanzada and progress in investigations and other allied matters.
The meeting was attended amongst others by Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and Inspector General of Punjab Police.
The NAP was evolved by the government with the approval of all political forces of the country in January 2015 to take action against terrorists and extremists and augment Zarb-e-Azb operation which the army had launched in June last year to root out militants and anti-state elements from Fata areas of the country. Since terrorist attack on the Army Public School Peshawar on December 16 last, civil and the military leadership is united to show no laxity to the terrorists and foil their nefarious designs.
Through the 21st Constitutional Amendment, special courts headed by the army officers are also operational to speedily dispense of justice and decide cases relating to terrorism facing inordinate delay in civil courts. The government has also lifted self imposed moratorium on death penalty.
