KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) member of Sindh Assembly, Khalid bin Wilayat has announced parting ways from the party after the controversial speech by the party leader on Monday and the subsequent unrest in Karachi.

Khalid bin Wilayat was elected to the provincial assembly from PS-105, Karachi on MQM's ticket. He announced severing ties with the party and joining Mustafa Kamal's Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP).

Earlier on Monday evening, MPA Irum Azeem Farooque said that she was resigning from her membership of the party as well as the Sindh Assembly.

The resignations followed violent protests by MQM workers and supporters in Karachi after the party chief Altaf Hussain ordered them to attack offices of Geo News, ARY, and Samaa media channels in the city.
