Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif appeared on TV on 9 December 2008 mostly commenting on his visit to China. He quoted how much the export targets of Korea, Hong Kong, China etc were compared to those of Pakistan. A participant in the live debate opined that only if overseas Pakistanis' property, residential or commercial, is made safe, how much foreign investment it would bring. The Chief Minister agreed that there were a lot of Qazba Groups in Punjab, offering his 'personal guarantee' for safety of such investment. He disclosed that under the control of a dynamic Dy. Secretary a complaint cell was working in the Chief Minister House to look after all sorts of complaints. The participant rightly remarked why laws were not enacted to save the investment/properties of foreign investors and that under these circumstances, his personal guarantee had no value. About 15 years back, a similar complaint cell for Overseas Pakistanis was also established in Punjab. Nothing happened. -ANUM, Karachi, via e-mail, December 16.
