The Apex court decision about the NRO offers a ray of hope to those who wish to uproot corruption in the government institutions. Many politicians, lawyers and civil society activists have expressed jubilation after the court declared the NRO null and void. Perhaps, they are right too in hailing the decision. But the extraordinary jubilation shown by some after the NRO decision is also rather surprising because these same people were distributing sweets when Nawaz Sharif was deposed in a coup in 1999. Then again, the very same people were found distributing sweets on Musharraf's resignation. If they think that many ministers and President would resign as a result of the NRO being annulled (and they distributing sweets as usual) they are living in fools' paradise. -ZAHID RASHID.
