Farooqui bailed out in ARY case

RAWALPINDI Accountability Court Rawalpindi No 2 granted bail to Salman Farooqui, Principal Secretary to President Asif Ali Zardari, and summoned two other accused in ARY Gold Reference case on next hearing here on Tuesday. Salman Farooqi along with his counsel appeared before the AC judge Wamiq Javed and submitted surety bonds of Rs 0.5 million in ARY case. He pleaded before the court for bail which court granted him and deferred the hearing till January 28. The court issued summon notices to Brig (Retd) Aslam Hayat Qureshi and Javed Talat for remaining absent during the court hearing. The same court also started the hearing of another reference regarding SGS against former Chairman Central Board of Revenue (CBR) AR Siddiqi. The counsel of accused informed the court that his client is on bail and at present he is in Karachi. The court directed the lawyers of both sides to initiate final arguments on 11 January. In another case, Accountability Court No 3 judge Najam-ul-Hassan convicted Attiya Shakeel for defrauding general public and sentenced her three years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 153.705 million. In case of default in payment of fine, the convict will have to undergo another one-year rigorous imprisonment. As per details, the convicted lady collected huge amount from the public fraudulently and deceitfully on the pretext of investment in her business of medicine. Initially, Attiya Shakeel gave her investors lucrative profits and entrapped them to invest in her business. Earlier, on receipt of complaints, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi initiated action and arrested the lady. She requested for bail in Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi which was rejected by the court.
