Swine flu's intensity may end soon

KARACHI - The intensity of pandemic influenza H1N1 (Swine Flu) in the province may end till March 10, while National Institute of Health (NIH) Islamabad has confirmed 25 positive case of swine flu in the zone. Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has confirmed the presence of 35 positive cases in the province, while 3 new cases are being observed. Experts urged citizens to be clam and take protective measures against the disease. They have also emphasised that cleanliness and precautionary measures are the effective tools against the swine flu. Talking to The Nation, Head of Infection Control Committee, AKUH, Dr Bushra Jamil said that pandemic influenza might be ended in coming March and April as cold weather was stimulating the cases of swine flu in the province. Around 39 cases have been confirmed from the laboratories of the AKUH, she said and added that swine flu was the real threat to pregnant women. Pregnant women must avoid care of suspected patients in their families, while suspected patients should be isolated from family members. Besides, they should also avoid from going to public places particularly schools and busses. However, in this regard under 2 years children required more attention from their parents and health care workers, she said. Focal person of Swine Flue Cell Dr Shakil Malik said that the government was trying its best to get control over the pandemic. He confirmed 25 positive cases of swine flu in Sindh. He said that media should play its pivotal role in term of spreading awareness regarding swine flue and its preventions among the masses. CDGK providING free medicines As per an official of the CDGK, There is no imminent danger of a swine flu pandemic in Pakistan. However, the government has proactively braced itself to counter any critical situation relating to H1N1 as the disease transfers rapidly from one to other person and therefore it is necessary to take all precautionary measures. So far 9 people have died and 76 were reported to have suffered with the deadly virus in Pakistan out of which 2 people died in Karachi while 26 were reported to have symptoms of Swine Flu. Following the directives of City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, necessary precautionary measures have already been taken by City District Government Karachi. Preventive drugs have not only provided to city government-run hospitals but other major hospitals were also being provided with the medicines free of cost so that the citizens could be saved from the affects of this virus. Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal has issued strict directives in this regard and so far thousands tablets of Tami Flu- the preventive drug have been provided to Abbasi Shaheed and Civic Hospital Karachi, Jinnah Hospital, Qatar Hospital and Sindh Services Hospital. City Nazim has also directed that instead of sending the specimen for testing H1N1 to Islamabad all necessary arrangements should be made for testing of specimen at the pathological laboratory of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Leprosy Hospital.
