Fuel pumps owners stage protest

LAHORE (PPI) - Petrol and CNG pumps owners staged a protest in front of Punjab Assembly here on Wednesday against cancellation of lease for petrol pumps by the Punjab government. This protest was organized over the appeal of All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) and Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association. The CNG and petrol pumps owners and employees blocked Mall Road for one hour and they raised slogans against the provincial government. They were also holding the banners and demanding to increase the petroleum commission, revise the lease policy for petrol pumps and ensure the gas supply to CNG stations in Punjab. Mehr Arshad, Senior Vice President Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) talking to reporters said that LDA has made a plan to auction the land of ten petrol pumps in city. He said DCO Lahore has already given insurance to association that LDA would not auction the land without completion of the leasing date. He said petrol pump owners were ready to buy the land according to market value and if government wants to increase the rent of these plots we would pay the rent according to new schedule. He said provincial government wants to deliver precious lands of fuel stations to their party workers. He said the government was auctioning the structure of fuel stations which had been completed after heavy investment by the petroleum dealers. Giyas Abdullah Paracha, Chairman APCNGA said in his address that Chief Minister Punjab must take notice for cancellation of lease and must accept the rights of petrol pump owners because if fuel stations at such places would be closed the hundreds of workers would lose their jobs and this step would crush the affected pump owners. He said if the Punjab government would not accept our demands we would continue our protest against the unjustified policies of the provincial government. The protesters also chanted slogans against cancellation of lease of petrol pumps and later they dispersed peacefully.
