KCCI pledges to solve traders problems

KARACHI - President Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Muhammad Saeed Shafiq has said that Chamber is the platform to highlight the issues of the business community in an unbiased way and efforts are being made to solve the problems of business community. We have highlighted the issue of RGST on every forum; also the members are suggested to raise their issues in sub-committee meetings using this platform, said Muhammad Saeed Shafiq at the first meeting of the Taxation Sub-Committee. Anis Majeed, Chairman for the Taxation Sub-Committee, KCCI, assured that he will put all efforts to meet the trust of BMG, office bearers and his colleagues in the Managing Committee and all business community. Anis thanked Siraj Kassam Teli, Chairman BMG and other members for selecting him on this key position. Addressing the first meeting of Taxation Sub-Committee at the Chamber, he said that in the current economic turmoil especially when the tax rates are so high and cost of doing business is increasing day by day, burdening the business community with additional taxes will only add up the problem and eventually result in loss of revenue to the national exchequer. Anis Majeed was of the firm view that in the present state of affairs Government cannot make it out from the fiscal disorder without taking onboard all associations of Karachi, as Karachi is the industrial hub of the country and Karachi chamber is the largest chamber of the nation. Majeed said that the Chamber and BMG has made all efforts and proposals to rectify tax anomalies and reduce the tax burden from business community at all forums including the National Assembly. Chairman Taxation Sub-Committee invited proposals and suggestions from the diverse audience present during meeting. He appealed that Government should support the export sector which comprises of mainly textile sector and remaining four 'zero rated sectors such as sports goods manufacturing, surgical instruments manufacturing, leather and carpet producing sectors that generates 60pc of the employment in country. Instead of taking steps and making legislations like RGST which would not only increase the cost of doing business but would also make life miserable for the common man.
