ISLAMABAD - Amir Khan has announced to establish a boxing academy in Pakistan if government allocates a piece of land for this purpose. World's renowned British boxer of Pakistani origin Amir expressed these views while talking to The Nation on Sunday. Amir , who is on personal visit to Pakistan, said Pakistan possessed immense amount of natural talent, and the only need was to polish their skills and provide them with best available training.
“I had offered Pakistan Boxing Federation to utilise my international standard gym facilities in Bolton, during the London Olympics but reasons best known to federation they didn't bothered to even reply to my offer.”
He said Commonwealth Games are due next year in Glasgow, Scotland, where Pakistani boxers are due to participate and his offer still stands. “If Pakistani boxers want to take benefit from my gym, I would be more than willing to offer my all out help. They could not only utilise all the facilities, but if I was present in Bolton, I would personally visit them and give them tips too.” Amir said all his facilities would be available to Pakistani boxers free of cost
When this correspondent asked Amir is he willing to help Pakistani boxers by inviting them to England, Amir said: “Yes. I had offered them in the past and if federation recommends a boxer, who had the potential, my services are always available.” Speaking about his next bout, Amir said his promoters were in advance talks with representatives of few boxers and hopefully he would fight next bout very soon next year and would fight for the very first time in 147kg welter weight category.
On another query regarding any difficulty after marriage, Amir replied: “I am a true professional. Marriage life has helped me a great deal rather than hampering my future ambitions. Boxing is my life. I would continue to enjoy boxing as long as I could. Even after retiring I would serve boxing one way or another. I can't even think about living without boxing . It inspires me, drives me and I enjoy it too much.”
“Pakistan had a very bright future in boxing . There are many areas where raw talent is available in bulks. Pakistan Boxing Federation must fond and groom that raw talent and turn them into one of the best in business. Whenever they require my services for any kind of assistance or need my guidance, I would not hesitate and reply to their call in affirmative,” Amir concluded.
