Lifting moratorium from carrying out executions a good omen: Siraj ul Haq

ISLAMABAD- Amir Jamaat-e- Islami (JI) Siraj ul Haq has said, lifting moratorium from carrying out executions is a good omen and there should be no discrimination in the matter of implementation of sentences.

He held that key to the problems facing the country lies with implementation of law and constitution in letter and spirit. Responding to a question about the persons convicted and sentenced by Supreme Court and other courts he said, no discrimination should be made in implementation of sentences. He went on to say that implementation of death penalty was kept suspended for a long period under world pressure while life lies with Qasas. Right to pardon the killer rests with the heirs of victim only in Islam. Heirs of a murdered person can pardon the murderer if they want so and no other procedure than this is there for pardoning the killers, he added.
