Noor Jehan was born in 1928 and wasnamed Allah Rakhi by her parents.

She began singing at the age of 6 and demonstrated exceptional skills. She would copy Akhtari Bai Faizabadi and Mukhtar Begum after listening to their records.

Noor Jehan's talent was discovered by her eldest cousin who then introduced her to classical music formally.

She initially started as an actress, with her first movie having been made in 1935 by K.D Mehra in which she was a child star.

Noor Jehan stayed at the Radio Station during the 1965 war for 17 days. Throughout the time, she recorded patriotic songs that remain popular to date.

Noor Jehan was the first Pakistani female movie director.

Noor Jehan has over 10,000 recorded songs, most of which were patriotic songs. Her melodious voice got her the title of 'The Queen of Melody' or Malika-e-Tarannum.

She married twice, with both marriages ending in divorce.

Faiz Ahmed Faiz once said that his poem 'Mujhse pehli si muhabbat' no longer belonged to him and that it was Noor Jehan's song now. He said this mainly because of how her voice had added charm to the poem to the extent that he wanted to attribute all the credit for its success to her.
