PESHAWAR - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Monday said that Chasma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) project would be launched by the end of March, saying the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) had already approved this mega project. The Prime Minister also announced construction of a modern bus terminal in the Peshawar and said that the funds for the project would be provided by the Federal Government. Eulogizing people of the NWFP and acknowledging role of the provincial government in the war against terrorism, the PM Gilani said that both the masses and the NWFP government demonstrated courage during the tough and difficult times. He also assured that the second instalment of the amount, which was pledged for the skill development of security forces in NWFP to enable police and the Frontier Constabulary to take control over the war affected zones after withdrawal of Pakistan Army, would be released soon. He said that the central Government would also devise a relief package for the business community of the province, which suffered huge losses due to the terrorist acts. The Prime Minister was addressing the ceremony, which was organised to confer the Hilal-e-Eisar on the five districts of the NWFP, which hosted the IDPs of Malakand for more than three months. I salute the people of NWFP, particularly, people of the Malakand who did not loss their courage during the testing times. Winning their hearts and minds as well as rehabilitation of these people is onus on us as the people of Malakand backed the military operation, enabled the Pak Army to clear the area from militants and establish writ of the Government, PM added. He said that no stone would be left unturned for their rehabilitation and Rs 50 billion would be released to rehabilitate them again. Despite global economic recession, the Federal Government will fulfil its promise regarding release of the amount for rehabilitation of people of the Malakand and soon Rs 17 billion will be given to the NWFP Government in this regard, PM stated. Our Government had adopted the strategy to unite the people against militancy and then chased the militants wherever they challenged write of the Government, with Grace of Allah we have succeeded in this strategy, PM said. He termed students as an asset for Pakistans future and said that the fight against militancy was basically to protect this asset, adding that the militants even did not hesitate to target educational institutions and police stations. But all their plans had failed, he said. Earlier, the Prime Minister conferred Hilal-e-Eisar on the five districts of NWFP. Five students from each district Peshawar, Charssada, Nawshera, Mardan and Swabi were selected to receive the flags from the PM. Chief Minister NWFP Amir Haider Hotti, in his welcome speech, said people of the NWFP had sacrificed their present for the future of Pakistan and they would continue till elimination of the militancy and terrorism, which he termed as a big threat to Pakistan. Speaking on the occasion, the NWFP Chief Minister further said that being leader of the people of the province, he would seek the PMs support because the people had suffered allot. We are thankful for your support and will seek its continuation, he added. The NWFP CM also demanded of the PM to release the 2nd instalment of Rs 6 billion for the capacity building of police, to issue notification of the package announced by the PM, implementation of announcement about Chasma Right Bank Canal and release Rs 17 billion for rehabilitation of affected people of the Malakand Division.
