'Q' MP accuses Sana of patronising banned outfit

ISLAMABAD - Accusing Punjab government of patronising a banned outfit, PML-Q legislator Sh Waqas Akram, Monday, said that Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah had accompanied the leader of the outfit in his official vehicle during his visit to Jhang. Speaking on the point of order in National Assembly, Sh Waqas Akram said that provincial law minister Rana Sanaullah visited Jhang on February 21 in connection with bye-election in PP-82. During his visit, law minister met with the chief of a banned organisation and took him to the election campaign in an official vehicle of the Punjab government with police escort headed by a Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP), Waqas Akram further alleged. He further said that he had no interest in the said constituency (PP-82), as it was a rural constituency from where PML-Q had fielded no candidate, however, PPP and PML-N were contesting the elections in that constituency. I urge these political parties not to put the lives of people in danger for the sake of some votes, he appealed. Taking such steps, Punjab government is giving a message to the people that they should not vote for liberal and enlightened candidates, since full protocol was being extended to the banned outfits and their leaders, he alleged. Police officials including DPO can do nothing against the leader of a banned outfit when a minister accompanies him, Waqas Akram further said. It is because of the patronage of provincial law minister, the workers of a banned outfit have held a rally in Jhang, he said. He demanded that the Interior Minister should take notice of such activities in Jhang. PML-N MNA Rasheed Akbar Nivani on the point of order also raised the issue and said that the leaders and workers of the said banned outfit were openly moving in his constituency and there was no one to stop them. We ourselves are promoting terrorism, Nivani said. Responding to the point of order, State Minister for Interior Tasneem Qureshi agreed with the legislator and said that Interior Ministry had already received a report regarding the visit. Whatever Waqas Akram has said is true and we will discuss the issue with Punjab Government. He said that such steps could be dangerous for the war on terror being fought with the help of people. Meanwhile, Minister for Labour and Manpower Khurshid Shah said that it was the responsibility of the federal govt to contact with provincial govt in such matters so that the federal govt would contact Punjab govt in writing. It is a serious matter and the govt would have to take notice, he concluded.
