LAHORE - District Coordination Officer Ahad Khan Cheema has said that the implementation of dengue regulation would be ensured at any cost in the City and no negligence would be tolerated in this regard.

While presiding over a meeting at Town Hall regarding dengue preventive measures, the DCO said steps were being taken to cope with possible attack of dengue and the process of mapping would be completed in next week days. He directed the concerned officers to complete the process of recruitment of spray-men and baildars immediately and to ensure the attendance of staff. He said response time of concerned staff in case of finding larva at some places should be minimised.

The meeting was told tyre shops had been served notices under dengue regulations and spray was being started in this connection. The DCO directed the concerned departments to keep close liaison and share information to each other. He also directed that sanitary supervisors and sanitary inspectors should also be assigned responsibilities.

The District Coordination Officer said the performance of surveillance teams should also be checked. He directed to take strict action against absent staff. The meeting was also attended by EDO Health, town officers and other officials.

Dengue awareness seminar : Parliamentary Secretary Health Dr Saeed Elahi has stressed upon the youth to come forward for creating public awareness about dengue for eradicating the menace.

Addressing a seminar on dengue at Government College for Women, Model Town on Wednesday, he said that the entire society would have to fulfil its responsibility for eliminating the breeding sites by adopting the principle of “prevention is better than the cure”.

Parliamentary Secretary Health Saeed Elahi said active participation of the masses was essential for supplementing the efforts of the government for eradication of dengue. He said that on the instructions of Chief Minister, a strategy had been evolved for eliminating dengue throughout the province including Lahore and all concerned departments were fully alert. He informed that according to the teams of vector surveillance, no larva of dengue mosquito was reported so far.

However, concerned teams were monitoring the situation closely in all districts, he added. He said that government has provided chemical, spray pumps and fogging machines to the administration of all vulnerable districts.

Steps against dengue directed: Secretary Health Punjab Capt (r) Arif Nadeem has directed the officers to implement the steps being taken for eradication of dengue.

Chairing a meeting held here Wednesday to review the performance and implementation on the steps taken for dengue control, he said public awareness campaign should be made more effective.

He reiterated that dengue could only be controlled through fully participation of the community in the preventive campaign.

He directed all the divisional directors to make high dependency units at teaching as well as district hospitals functional to provide best treatment facilities to the dengue patients in case of any outbreak. He also stressed the need for holding refresher courses for district entomologists.
