LAHORE – Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa on Wednesday said senators were elected directly on the basis of party representation in the assemblies, and those who would miss the Senator Election, should wait. He added that the Senate seats could not be adjusted.
While talking to media men after the 10th convocation of the Government College University, Lahore, the governor said that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani respected the judiciary and he had never ridiculed the courts.
“The PM has his point-of-view, which he has taken by not writing a letter to Swiss authorities,” he said. He said the punishment for contempt of court could be accorded in a case, where a person intentionally ridicules the courts. He said the PM had even appeared before the Supreme Court. “I don’t think that Supreme Court will send Prime Minister to jail in the contempt of court case.”added the Punjab Governor.
He further asserted that no institution wanted to derail democracy and the Supreme Court also believed that democracy must be continued as it could ensure progress of the country.
