PESHAWAR - The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Wednesday unanimously passed a condemnation resolution against the US Congress resolution on Balochistan issue and termed it a conspiracy against the integrity and solidarity of Pakistan.

The condemnation resolution jointly drafted by Treasury and Opposition benches carried the signatures of ANP’s Senior Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour, PPP’s Senior Minister Rahimdad Khan, PML-N’s Javed Abbasi, Abdus Sattar Khan, Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Parliamentary leader Akram Khan Durrani, Hafiz Akhtar Ali, PML-Q’s Qalandar Lodhi and PPP-Sherpao’s Sikandar Sherpao, was moved by the ANP’s Bashir Ahmad Bilour on the floor of the House.

The resolution said that ‘this House considers the US Congress resolution a conspiracy to create rift among the Pakistani nation in order to avenge the suspension of supplies to NATO forces in Afghanistan and vacation of the Shamsi airbase’.

This, the resolution said, was a failed attempt by the US to pressurise Pakistan.

Bilour, through the resolution asked Federal Government to summon the US Ambassador to Pakistan to the Foreign Office to condemn the US Congress move and stop them from such interfering in Pakistan’s internal affairs.  The US Congress resolution on Balochistan is against the UN charter, international laws and norms, the resolution further added.

Through the same condemnation resolution, the ANP’s Senior Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour also criticised the wording of the US Congress resolution regarding extra judicial killing of Balochs, political and ethnic discrimination against them. The resolution, he said, had created anguish and unrest among Pakistanis.

The House supported the resolution with ‘ayes’ when the Speaker put it for voice vote.

Earlier, legislators from various political parties continued debate on the US Congress resolution on Balochistan.

The identical adjournment motion of the PML-N’s Javed Abbasi, JUI-F’s Mufti Kifyatullah and Hafiz Akhtar Ali had been admitted for debate.

PML-N lawmaker Javed Abbasi said the US Congress had breached sentiments of the entire nation by adopting such an irresponsible resolution.

He said the US was taking such steps to achieve her own interests, adding, that the US lawmakers never discussed the ongoing injustices with the people of Kashmir fighting for their right of self-determination.

He said the Senate and National Assembly should have taken notice of the US Congress resolution.

The JUI-F’s Mufti Kifayatullah also criticised the government for restoring the NATO supply without taking care of the nation’s sentiments.  He said they wanted relations with US on the basis of equality.

The PML-Q’s Qalandar Lodhi said the US Congress had passed the resolution in retaliation for the blockade of NATO supply and evacuation of the Shamsi airbase.

Bashir Bilour vowed to continue the war against terrorism.

He, however, added that innocent people were being killed in the ongoing war.

He criticised the US Congress, adding, that the government should announce amnesty for Baloch leaders and resolve the issue through negotiations.

He said they could not allow others to interfere in their country’s affairs. Later, the Speaker Kiramatullah Khan prorogued the sitting for an indefinite period.
