LAHORE – A mentally-retarded man gunned down his wife and daughter over honour issue. The murders took place in the Sandha Police precincts late on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as 34-year-old Shaheena and her three-year-old Tayyaba, residents of Tufail Colony Bund Road. Police investigators said that Muhammad Rafiq along with his wife Shaheena and four children had been living at aforementioned place for the last four years. “On Wednesday, the accused exchanged hot words with his wife and later shot injured her and his daughter Tayyaba. Resultantly the minor died on the spot and Shaheena was taken to the Mayo Hospital where the doctors pronounced her as dead. Police after being informed reached the spot and shifted the bodies to the City morgue for autopsy. “The accused has fled and we are searching for him,” DSP Gulshan-e-Ravi Cricle Imtiaz Bhalli told reporters on crime scene. He said, “We are investigating the matter and will soon arrest the criminal”. He further said that the killer along with his relatives have escaped after taking remaining kids of Shaheena. A neighbour Zahid Hussain said that the Rafiq and his wife Shaheena were continuously fighting with each other for the last several days. Sources in police department claimed the culprit had learned about loose character of his wife, as he had snubbed her on numerous occasions. “On Wednesday, when the woman retaliated in the same way, the accused gunned her down and accidentally the baby girl also fell prey to him,” they added. They, however, suspected the man was insane or mentally retarded but no official evidence was available to ratify their claim. An FIR has been lodged against him, with no arrest till filing of this report.
