OKARA - Officiating Sahiwal Division RPO and Okara DPO Dr Abid Khan Raja has said the doctors must utilise their energy to save people’s lives.
He said this while addressing an oath-taking ceremony of newly-elected Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) district office-bearers here in PMA House on Wednesday.
PMA District President Dr Liaqat Ali Kausar, General Secretary Dr Mohammad Siddique Anwar, ex-president Haji Nasir Waheed, ex-president Dr Ishtiaq Ali also addressed the ceremony. District Press Club lifetime Chairman Munir Chaudhry, senior journalists Zulifqar Ali Malik, Sheikh Sajid Rasheed, Ghulam Nabi Malik Hafiz Hasnain Ahmad and Azhar Sheikh attended the event. Officiating RPO DR Abid Raja informed the audience that Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah founded the Medical Association in 1948. He said the exclusive role of doctors is to serve humanity and they should also strengthen Health Department.
He hoped that the doctors would never show any slackness in their professional services.
Dr Liaqat Ali Kausar said the doctors had been entangled in quagmire of crisis. Show-cause notice and suspension of doctors have become a routine, she said adding that it was surprising to say that murder cases were also being registered against them.
Dr Kausar said that mistakes may be committed by the doctors during treatment, but they cannot kill a patient deliberately.
Dr Siddique Anwar said that they would assure doctors’ security in their tenure.
In the end, Dr Abid Raja was given a special shield by the PMA. Assistant Commissioner Arif Rauf, Anjuman-e-Tajran President Chaudhry Saleem Sadiq and large number of citizens were also present there.
