PESHAWAR - As many as 14 persons, including nine women and four children, were killed and nine others were injured when a bus carrying a wedding party plunged into the overflowing Budhni Canal in Peshawar on Friday. Police and eyewitness said the incident occurred owing to overflowing of water on Budhni Bridge. The bus slipped and went out of control of the driver. After the accident, the driver went missing. Some say he made his escape by jumping out of the vehicle.  Soon after the incident, rescue workers and a large number of people rushed to the site and took part in the rescue activities. Most of the victims drowned in the overflowing water and some were recovered from Hindko Daman area of Peshawar. Police said it was a marriage ceremony of the daughter of Saadat, a resident of Budho Samar Bagh. Those injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar for medical treatment. Some of the injured were stated to be in critical condition. Those dead were identified as daughter of Nasrullah, Sher Afzal, the mother of Farman, Fukraj Bibi, Mahnoor, wife of Jehanzeb and son of Sher Afzal.
