PESHAWAR - The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would strongly resist any attempts to take control over its water reservoirs in the name of any project by the Punjab government.

“We have already opposed the construction of the controversial Kalabagh Dam, and any scheme aimed to control KP water reservoirs from Ghazi Baratho project would have serious consequences,” said Khyber Paktunkhwa Spokesmen, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, while addressing at a seminar organised by Watan Welfare Society on KP water-resources here on Friday.

Referring to the recent execution of water supply project by Capital Development Authority, with Chinese firm, to the twin cities, Iftikhar Hussain said that it was a sheer violation as spanning of the canal was increased. He urged the authorities to take steps for re-diversion of the canal after the project.

Mian Iftikhar vowed the government would take every possible step to dent any plan for taking control over KP-water reservoirs. He stressed the need for holding of All Political Parties (APC) to stop water supply schemes to Islamabad, Rawalpindi and other cities of Punjab from Indus River.

He said that the Khyber Paktunkhwa government wasn’t consulted and also did not discussed during the last meeting of Council of Common Interest regarding the water supply to Islamabad-Rawalpindi through the project.

But, he said they would strongly against such scheme, which could water-scarcity in KP province.

He said the step was also against the spirit of 18th constitutional amendments
