LAHORE  - Punjab police Sunday claimed to have removed and confiscated 54 loudspeakers from 27 mosques and seminaries in the city and registered cases against 42 members of Masjid committees for violating loudspeaker act.

Spokesman for police said that six shops and a printing press were sealed for publication of literature hurting the religious sentiments of the people and sale of CDs pertaining to speeches promoting religious hatred.

He said that more than 2,700 accused have been arrested and 2,603 cases registered against them. Similarly, more than 2,200 loudspeakers and amplifiers, hundreds of books, CDs and pamphlets containing objectionable material besides 370 weapons including pistols, mausers and thousands of bullets have been taken into custody.

In a statement, the CCPO said that people would also have to play their due role for rooting out the menace of terrorism and supplement the efforts of police against terrorists and anti-social elements as no society could be purged of crimes and terrorism without public cooperation.

He said that Lahore police is utilising all-out resources for the implementation of National Action Plan and it was due to this fact that suicide bomber who attacked Police Lines could not hit his target.

The CCPO said that instructions had been issued to all divisional SPs not only to carry out monitoring of the persons included in schedule-IV but also make it binding upon them to present themselves in the police stations at least once a week.
