Islamabad - The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) in collaboration with Punjab administration will carry out first aid training and blood screening of the government officials all over the province, besides spearheading the polio campaign including the seminary students as per the Charter of Humanity, signed between PRCS and Ittehad Tanzeemat Madaris Pakistan.

This was decided at a meeting held between Punjab Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal and a delegation of Red Crescent headed by Chairman Dr Saeed Elahi. The meeting was attended by Inspector General of Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera, secretaries of local government, auqaf, health and home department, and director generals of Civil Defence and Rescue 1122. PRCS Managing Body Members Mujeebur Rehman Shami, Qamaruz Zaman, Neena Akbar, Umar Saif and PRCS Punjab Branch Vice Chairman Faridud Din Ahmed and Secretary General Dr Mahboob Sardar were also present on the occasion. Dr Saeed said that the Red Crescent also plans to train police and district administration officials in first aid training to better respond to any eventuality besides provision of First Aid kits to the police stations.  He said that response committees to handle Disaster Preparedness and Response, and Health & Care related activities are also being set up at district level all over the country.

Dr Saeed said that the assistance to traffic wardens by providing PRCS volunteers for traffic management and social services besides provision of first aid kiosks at prominent cross roads/locations in collaboration with the District Administration/Police. He said that to make the highways safe the PRCS in collaboration with NHA will trained the officials to minimize the loss during incidents.

Chief Secretary Punjab Khizer Hayat Gondal on the occasion appreciated the efforts of the PRCS and directed all the officials of the Punjab Government to fully cooperate with the Red Crescent in implementation of these activities.

He said that the country is passing through a critical time and there is a need for joint efforts for better response and Red Crescent is the best platform for spearheading these welfare activities. 

Gondal said that all the DCOs will also be directed to play more proactive role and ensure implementation of these activities in their respective districts.

IG Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera welcomed the PRCS initiatives and assured full support in provision of training to traffic police officials and support in traffic management

Earlier, the PRCS Secretary General Dr Mahboob Sardar gave a detailed presentation about the PRCS response and its future initiatives.
