MUZAFFARABAD: Chief Justice of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Justice Muhammad Azam Khan launched the spring plantation drive by planting a sampling of araucaria tree in the premises of the Regional Campus Muzaffarabad.

The event was followed by mass planting by the students, teachers, and others officers and officials of the AIOU Regional Campus including Secretary Forests Farhat Ali Mir and Regional Director Muhammad Zubair Sajid.

Chief Guest Justice Muhammad Azam Khan underlined the importance of tree plantation and spelt out the benefits of trees on environment as well as on human lives. He highlighted important role of trees in climate change. He said that unfortunately environmental pollution had become a great threat to human lives on this globe and reforestation is the only answer to it.

The destruction and degradation of forests add to the already huge problems created by massive release of carbon dioxide. He pointed out that it is high time we fought deforestation by lending a hand to save trees and by creating awareness about our ecosystem.

Farhat Ali Mir Secretary Forests of the Govt. of AJ&K, who was present at the occasion, reiterated that his department was making all out efforts to increase the forest cover by reducing pace of deforestation. He was of the view that future demand of forest and forest products is primarily linked with the pattern adopted for reforestation in our present and future national plans. He applauded the role and cooperation of AIOU Regional campus during the current plantation campaign.
