Security at judicial complex reviewed

MANDI BAHAUDDIN - The District Bar Association (DBA) held a special meeting on Thursday to review security measures on the premises of District Judicial Complex.

Addressing the meeting, DBA president Matiur Rehman Ranjha said that the police had been deployed in and around the judicial complex. He added that people visiting the judicial complex would be frisked so that no one could enter the complex with a weapon. He said in past, lawyers had been exempted from checking and because of this leniency; several murder incidents had taken place on the premises of courts in Punjab and other parts of the country. "Recent murder of two lawyers in Lahore is a fresh example," he added.

Talking about Mandi Bahauddin district, he said that one person was shot dead at Phalia Judicial Complex last year. Another was shot dead at Mandi Bahauddin Judicial Complex outside DSJ court. In both cases, lawyers were involved to provide weapons to the accused.

He maintained that these incidents had brought bad name to the lawyers' community and made courts unsafe for the public as well as the lawyers' community. He advised the lawyers not to mind frisking at entry points of courts or judicial complexes. He also demanded full cooperation from the police to improve security measures.

The participants agreed to the proposal and passed a resolution describing every lawyer would enter the judicial complex through a 'walkthrough gate' and willingly undergo security check.
