LAHORE - The Punjab Government has ordered to hand over the building of Anti-Corruption Department located at Farid Court House to the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department within seven days. The decision came on the request of Excise and Taxation Department that remained pending over the last many years. The offices of Property tax, Professional tax and Excise branch will be housed in the building belonging to Revenue Department Punjab. Chief Secretary Punjab, Javed Mehmood has issued the directives to the department concerned to vacate the building. It may be recalled that building of Anti-Corruption Department is adjacent to building of Excise and Taxation Department in Farid Court House. Well-placed sources said that Secretary Excise and Taxation Department, Punjab Hassan Nawaz Tarar reinforced the request that was submitted by previous administration to then Punjab government some years back. He also made written request to Chief Secretary, Punjab, in November, 2008. It may be recalled that Revenue Department had issued notice to Anti-Corruption Department to vacate the building last month. Sources said that the formal request had underlined the need for housing all branches in one building for the convenience of the people. It mentioned that department had its branches in different parts of city, including Shadman, Baghbanpura and near Farid Court House. People had to visit one branch to another facing great hardships to get their work done, request said. It added that building of E&T department had been insufficient for the size of work that had increased manifold. There is a need to have another building proximity to the main building of E&T Department to shift some offices to share the burden of work, reduce congestion and divide the rush of people visiting the department daily. The request said with the decision, department would be able to save 3.5 million rupees annually being squandered on the payment of the rent for the buildings situated in different parts of the city.
