LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that provision of urea to the farmers within next few days is of utmost importance and all out measures are being taken for this purpose. He also directed to evolve a foolproof system for wheat procurement. He was addressing a meeting held here on Thursday to review supply of urea to the farmers, wheat production target and procurement of wheat. Additional Chief Secretary, Secretary Agriculture, Secretary Food, and other concerned officers were also present on the occasion. The Chief Minister said that all out measures have been taken by the government at every level for ensuring supply of urea to the cultivators and a high level committee has also been constituted under the chairmanship of Senior Advisor Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa which is taking measures on daily basis in this regard. He said that measures have also been taken on war footing for the transportation of 25 thousand tone of urea from Gowadar to Punjab. He said that all out measures should be taken for the provision of fertilizer to the farmers within next seven days so that production of wheat should not be affected. He said that he had also informed federal government regarding supply of urea and difficulties in its availability to the farmers in the province. He said that a target of 20 million tone of wheat has been set and measures are being taken for its achievement. He directed Secretary Food to evolve a comprehensive strategy for wheat procurement so that cultivators should not face any problem in this regard. He said that provision of urea is the responsibility of federal government but devising a comprehensive wheat procurement system is our duty and no negligence would be tolerated in this regard. Additional Chief Secretary gave details regarding the provision of urea to the cultivators in the province while Secretary Agriculture and Secretary Food informed the meeting about the production of wheat and the measures taken for its procurement.
