ISLAMABAD The hopeless streak of pitiful losses does not seem to die down any sooner for Pakistan. Yet another day at the field prove to be an embarrassing account of unimpressive show. After losing the Test series in a very bad manner, Pakistan team is still finding the way to break the jinx but poor captaincy and pitiable fielding allowed Australia to control the game at Brisbane. Kangaroos got upper hand in the five-match rubber by leading 1-0 after chasing 274 runs target. Pakistan posted 274 runs on the board after taking a nice start, as both the openers aggregated 62 runs for the first wicket. However, top order including skipper Mohammad Yousuf (2) Umar Akmal (23) and Shoaib Malik (28) failed to consolidate the teams position. Former captain Younus Khan did well with the bat by playing a solid innings of 46 runs innings but he consumed 74 balls and hit a single boundary during his stay on the pitch. Butts 72 runs innings was excellent contribution but he disappointed his teammates during the fielding session. He dropped century maker Cameron White off the bowling of Mohammad Aamir at the crucial stage of the fixture. Shahid Afridi played a breezy innings of 48 runs off just 26 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes, which help Pakistan post a reasonable total. It was sensible performance by the world record holder Shahid Afridi. It would have been a good occasion for the green shirts to start the ODI series with a win against world champions but they looked a bit rusty in the field after piling up 274. As it was not professional approach of our players. Mohammad Yousuf looked lethargic and every one was looking busy settling the filed placing. Younus, Afridi and Kamran Akmal looked even busier than the captain. Captaincy was the weakest area of Pakistan team in the first one-dayer as there seemed no strategy in using the bowlers. He used only five bowlers and had no option at the closing moments of the match when Afrid, Rana and Ajmal were not able to halt the run spree. He had an option in the middle of the innings but Yousuf seemed short of ideas. He could have used Shoaib Malik especially given the fact Malik had been picked come in the national team as an off break bowler. Yousuf was also unimaginative in using the Power Play at the closing stages of the match, as he had no bowling option. He had used five regular bowlers Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Aamir, Rana Naveed, Shahid Afridi and Saeed Ajmal but he did not use Shoaib Malik to create another bowling options. Pakistani players have to avoid fielding errors if they fancy a win. The middle order batsmen have to bat with concentration, as the first game of series has proved that 270 plus target will be not enough to topple the world champions in the upcoming fixtures. Pakistan team have to toil hard in all the departments including bowling, batting and fielding and be a unit to fight against the top cricket team of the world.
