ISLAMABAD - Federal Secretary Ministry of Communication on Tuesday told Public Accounts Committee that official record of a large number of projects has gone missing.Federal secretary Ministry of communication appeared before the PAC, which held the meeting in the premises of National Assembly on Tuesday. During hearing of PAC, Federal Secretary Ministry of communication narrated a tale of embezzlements and frauds committed by the officials and disclosed that records of mega projects of NHA has gone missing and accused higher authorities of NHA of their involvement in this heinous crime. “I have tried my level best to find record of various projects but in vain. I am under the impression that higher authorities of NHA including Chairman NHA might have been involved in embezzlement and do away with the official record,” federal secretary ministry of communication told PAC. The disclosure of missing of official record prompted the chairman of PAC to ordered an inquiry into the scandal and asked federal secretary of communication Anwar Ahmed to submit a report in this regards.On Tuesday, Chairman PAC Nadeem Afzal Chan fixed a deadline of 15 days for authorities of federal ministry of communication to recover Rs 542.5 million from MCC (a construction company) and threatened to transfer the case to NAB otherwise. It is important to mention here that, NA Public Accounts Committee (PAC) during last couple of hearings took serious notice of financial irregularities in National Highway Authority and Pakistan Post Office and issued directives for taking stern action against the officers found involved in corrupt practices.  The committee duri ng last hearing also took notice of additional payment of Rs 54.6 million to a contractor during the construction of Multan-Bahawalpur road. Chairman NHA had assured that he would not only ensure recovery of over payment but also initiate action against the officer found involved in this irregularity. The committee will be informed within a month about the progress in the matter.
