LAHORE - The Punjab Youth Festival 2014 entered its sixth day at tehsil level and as many as 77,610 athletes partook in different events showing courage to outshine their respective opponents and the rain across the province on Wednesday.

The courageous athletes defied tough weather conditions including rain with greater enthusiasm and 19,888 returned home joyous. In Aziz Bhatti Town, 80 players were witnessed in action in various events and among them 40 were victorious. Shahzad XI beat Rising Star XI to win the football event while Rafi XI defeated Nadeem XI in cricket event. Gulberg Town involved 132 players in healthy activities and 26 returned home as winners. Asif XI edged out Rehman XI in kabaddi event while Asad XI outplayed Akbar XI and Tipu Sultan XI downed Mazhar XI in cricket event. Out of 90 players of Samanabad Town, only three qualified for the next round. In the wrestling event of 65kg category, M Ali downed Kala Pehalwan while in 75kg category, Mithu Pehalwan beat Azam Pehalwan. In Nishtar Town, out of 56 athletes, 14 players remained successful. Azam XI defeated Ghouri XI and Maqsood XI beat Farrukh XI in cricket event. The Ravi Town saw participation of 266 players and among them 14 ended as winners. In cricket event, Ahsan XI beat Ayub XI while Shahbaz XI downed Tigers Club. In Data Gunj Bakhsh Town, 90 players showed their potential in various games and three were successful. In wrestling 65kg category, Sajid Majeed beat Billu Pehalwan while in 75kg category, Usman was victorious against Ali Pehalwan.

In Shalimar Town, 78 players locked horns in different events where 39 had smiles on their faces. In billiard events, Imran beat Adnan Ahmad while in badminton, Adeel edged out Farhan Ahmad. Imadad XI outplayed Yousaf XI to win tug of war title while cricket event title went to Usman XI who beat Mehboob XI. In Iqbal Town, out of 84 athletes, 42 were declared as winners. In cricket hardball, Awais XI outclassed Nadeem XI.
