ISLAMABAD - The federal government has promulgated Protection of Pakistan (Amendment) Ordinance, 2014, the attorney general told the Supreme Court Wednesday.
Attorney General for Pakistan Salman Butt, on behalf of the federation, placed before a three-member bench, headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, Protection of Pakistan (Amendment) Ordinance 2014. The bench was hearing 35 missing persons’ case. He told the court that the President of Pakistan had signed this ordinance today (Wednesday) at 10am and would be gazetted during the course of the day. The court said they would examine the amended ordinance and directed the attorney general to assist the court on next hearing. The amended ordinance was not shared with media persons. However, the Protection of Pakistan Ordinance provides for prevention of acts threatening the security of Pakistan. The court also rejected the Khyber Pukhtoonkhawa report about the 35 missing persons who were allegedly taken away by the agencies from the Fata internment centres. “The reply is meaningless,” said Justice Jawwad. He inquired why the apex court’s 10th December 2013 order had not been implemented.
KPK Advocate General Latif Yousafzai assured the court of implementing the order and said: “I will personally file the compliance report by Monday.” Justice Jawwad said if the order was not implemented, the chief minister would be summoned in the court to explain why its order had not been implemented. The judge said 35 persons of KPK were taken away from the province, but the provincial government had not cared for them.The case was adjourned till January 27.
