LAHORE: Punjab Chief Secretary Punjab Khizar Hayat Gondal is chairing a meeting to review the steps being taken to control influenza in the province on daily basis.

Addressing a meeting at Civil Secretariat on Friday, the Chief Secretary said that all possible measures are being adopted to control influenza. He directed that patients be given best medical facilities in hospital. He ordered that besides preventive measures awareness campaign about the disease be continued in a vigorous manner.

In his briefing, Director General Health Services Dr Amjad Shehzad told the meeting that the number of influenza patients in the province is 53. He added that 2 new patients have been reported in Lahore during the last 24 hours. He said that one patient died of influenza in Holy Family Hospital during the last 24 hours bringing the death toll to 18. The meeting was attended by Advisor on Health Khwaja Salman Rafique, MPA Khwaja Imran Nazir, Additional Chief Secretary Shumail Ahmad Khwaja, Secretary Health Najam Ahmad Shah, Secretary Health (Primary) Ali Jan, and Chairman PITB Dr Umer Saif.–Staff Reporter

CPSP’s efforts lauded

LAHORE: Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister on Health Kh Salman Rafiq has lauded College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) for producing such a large number of consultants that has helped overcoming shortage of specialists at district and tehsil levels.

Speaking at a ceremony on the conclusion of six workshops at CPSP Regional Centre yesterday, he said that nation was benefiting from the fruit of tree planted by General Wajid Ali Bakri in 1962.

Advance Trauma Life Support, Basic Life Support, Health Professions Education, Assessment of Competence, Primary Surgical Skills and Communication Skills workshops were arranged that was largely attended by supervisors and doctors.

Senior Vice President CPSP Prof Khalid Masood Gondal said that appreciation of CPSP at international level was due to efforts and services of its fellows. Prof Mahmood Ayyaz, Prof Aamir Zaman Khan, Prof Mohammad Tayyab and Major General Prof Shahida Badsha also addressed the ceremony.–Staff Reporter
